Harrier/Foxhound type puppies

These gorgeous puppies were born here at the centre. Although small at the moment they will grow in to medium/large size dogs that will need an active lifestyle to keep them out of trouble!

Like every puppy, they will need house training and socialisation to become well rounded happy dogs, and puppy classes will certainly help with this. The hound is used to being in a pack environment, so they will definitily benefit from living in a household with a family and other dogs. They are affectionate, sweet natured dogs so we are happy for them to live with children, but keep in mind they are still at the jumping up, mouthy stage, so younger children should have had some previous experience of dogs. And at this age they can be trained to live with other animals including cats.

History

Born at the centre in October.

Re-homing Criteria

Hounds are high energy, scent driven, explorers. These larger hounds have historically been used to hunt in packs, so they have great stamina, a couple of 30mins walks a day will not satisfy their needs. To not give them the exercise, mental and physical, that they need will lead to them becoming naughty and hard to live with.

With this in mind we are looking for adopters that enjoy an outside lifestyle, full of adventures and exercise. As grown dogs we can see them walking up hill and dale, running next to bikes or horses, and even helping their owners train for marathons, they are that active! We can see also them going to work with people that work outside.

Families whose children have already had experience with dogs would be benificial. As they are young they can be brought up with other animals, and as a pack animal another dog or two at home would be a bonus. Pups need someone around a lot of the time, so someone at home most of the time is a must. A secure garden will also be a must, fencing of at least 5ft. Not only will this help you with house training and recall, as they are a scent driven, having a secure garden will ensure they won't be nipping off to trail things out and about in the future!
