Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre is urging its members, supporters and friends to reflect for a moment before commencing their Christmas shopping.
The Charity, based at Glencaple, is hoping that people will consider sponsoring its Supported Adoption Scheme dogs as an alternative form of Christmas present for family and friends. A number of dogs (currently 14) live very happily in family homes following time spent at the Centre but, sadly, due to age and / or ill-health will always need additional veterinary care. As a result, these dogs would most likely never find a "Forever Home" if the Rescue Centre did not agree to pay for the additional costs throughout the dog's lifetime.
This is, of course, a high cost for the Centre to bear but when we see how happy these dogs are in their homes, we know it is a cost worth paying. To help us, we are hoping that for as little as £5 per month, people may decide to give a year's doggie support instead of a gift to those on their Christmas shopping list this year. A card will be sent to the recipient indicating that their Christmas gift is being used to support a very worthy cause. Surprisingly, this is becoming a very popular way for people to support charities whilst not increasing their overall festive expenditure.
Further information is available on our website www.caninerescue.co.uk or by telephone 01387 770210 or email email@example.com in person at the Centre or one of our shops in Annan, Dalbeattie, Dumfries, Newton Stewart and Thornhill.
